procrastination
Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Is the purpose of your life clear? Have you set your long term goal? Setting and aiming on long term goal is the most powerful medication for procrastination. Vision is a word, tells us what we aim to achieve, and our method to achieve it. A visionless life will easily put you into procrastination lifestyle. With the absence of a clear vision you will easily give up, at the time of difficulty.

If you haven’t still got a vision, then keep this as your first priority. If you lack a vision in guiding you, your aim and goals will keep changing to every other project, every year.

- List out your goals in life. A simple wish won’t get you everything, listing the goals is the first step in conquering procrastination. By a recent research proved that people writing down their life’s goals earn 10 times more than those who don’t. You might have a goal in mind, but without writing it down the chances of success is very small.

- split up the long term goal into smaller ones. This is the best method to keep your focus on the long term goal and move towards it. Without the proper milestones to tell your progress, you might have not yet started moving towards your goal but think you have accomplished a lot in the project. Is missing deadlines your habit?

Do you justify you failure in not completing a task by making up reasons, than trying to complete it now? Are you serious enough to realize the reason for missing your deadline? Have you written down a plan to complete the task without much further delay in deadline?

- Perfectionism is a big cause for procrastination. You should make up the difference between getting caught in the vicious circle in perfectionism and going towards excellence. Question yourself which work really needs perfectionism. If a job you are doing doesn’t need perfectionism, then keep in mind that your aim should be more in excellence than in perfectionism.

- Keep an idea book or a journal in handy, always with you. You any free time you get to plan up the attack on the next goal. While working on one task, what do you usually do when you get some odd idea about something else? Do you note those down? A spare can be best used in writing, which brings out your problem solving skill and let lose your creativity. Just put down your thoughts as fast as you can without giving much importance to the grammar and spelling. If you are planning to show the written work to someone else, you can do a revision work later.

Just remember that every task coming to you today is a part of the divine plan of your life. “There is a divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we will,” said Shakespeare. Your creation was to accomplish a lot more than you ever thought of to do some “rough hewing” on the goals of your life.

procrastination
Beth Tabak asked:

“I have learned that most regrets come from the things I DIDN’T do. I have learned that regret lasts forever.” Simply Brilliant

Procrastination- putting off what you can do today until tomorrow. 7 years, 5 months, and 2 days later you’re wondering why you never started that book. It would have been completed. You could be reaping the rewards and writing full time. You see yourself sitting on the garden patio of your dream home surrounded by towering palms and luxurious flowers. As the ocean breeze glides across your face the telephone rings. You made the Best Seller List. In regret the vision is bright. In procrastination it’s doom and gloom. Back in the present you may be saying, ”There’s too much competition. No one will publish my book”. What if you flip flop the picture so you are pulled towards the intense vision you had in regret like it was a magnet. Why not create that vision sooner rather than later. Procrastination leads to stress, poor health, and regrets that last for life. Action results in fulfillment, life experience, and wisdom. Get the 4 steps to break through procrastination below.

Step 1- What are you procrastinating on? Is it appropriate to hold off or irrational postponement? Will this make a positive impact in your life? Choose the area that you will stop procrastinating and make a renewed commitment.

Step 2- Discover the source to find the solution. Consider when your car doesn’t start. You look for the source of the problem. When you find the source it is easy to take action to make the repair. Look behind procrastination to find what is restraining you. It may be an unpleasant task, lack of interest, someone else’s goal, a large overwhelming project, fear, poor time management, or indecision. Be brutally honest and get to the source.

Step 3- Based on the source; decide if this is a goal you want to keep. If so, choose a strategy that feels good to you. It may mean developing new habits. Discover the source and set up the strategy in a way that you know you will take action. Here are some possible sources and solutions to get your ideas flowing:

An Unpleasant Task/ Lack of Interest- Schedule it at the beginning of the day so it is not hanging over your head all day long. Think of how great you will feel to have it done. Reward yourself when you follow through.

Someone Else’s Goal- Set a boundary…say no or accept only the part of the job that you feel good about. If you can not say no (ex. employment situation) then you may choose to follow the above solution.

A Large Overwhelming Project- Break the project into small manageable tasks. What part can you do? What can you delegate? What is the first step? What daily steps can you take? A great solution for decluttering!

Lack of Focus Due to Multiple Projects- Prioritize the projects then break them down into small manageable tasks as in the step above. Focus on completion of one project at a time.

Fear- What is the fear telling you? Is it valid or an irrational assumption? Usually what we anticipate doesn’t occur. Picture the ideal end result. Affirmations and visualization can help. Focus on how great you will feel simply for having the courage to try. As Eleanor Roosevelt says, “you gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face. Your must do the thing which you think you cannot do.”

Poor Time Management- Schedule a block of time daily or weekly to work only on this project. Keep the appointments. Begin with small blocks of time (whatever you can commit) until you are consistently keeping the appointments. Then consider committing more time.

Indecision- When you don’t know what to do set a deadline to make up your mind. Then get whatever support and information you need to be able to make an educated decision.

Step 4- Hold an intense vision- Think of that clear, exciting picture that shows up in regret. Allow that to pull you towards it. You have great capabilities when you take action, even if it’s learning in action. Focus on how great you will feel when you go for it! After all, it is through the journey that the great and memorable moments take place.

What project will you stop procrastinating on?

procrastination
Abhishek Agarwal asked:

To win the war against procrastination, get your priorities ready and established, and do stick to them. The secret behind successful people is that they have learnt to do their hard jobs without checking if they are in mood for it.

This quiz will help you to find if you have to be more serious on procrastination.

- Are priorities set up?

- Do you do all hard job even if you are not in mood?

- Is much of your time in the week allocated on doing the week’s tasks?

- Do you spend enough time everyday doing something on the long term goals?

- Does any system exist to measure your progress?

- Does any filing system exist for the long term projects?

If your answer is “no” to any one of the above, then you should concentrate more about procrastination. You need to find out if you are living happily with consequences of procrastination. Does your postponing have any good reasons, or has it become your habit to postpone?

- Determine your priorities. You should prepare a list of priorities everyday, why can’t you? If you do the list, find out how you are giving importance to things to rank them.

- Push yourself to work. Put up deadlines even when it is not necessary. You have to spend a lot of time on the week’s project, but do keep a little time for long time goals everyday.

- Spend 3/4th of your time doing the week’s job. Spend the remaining time you get on the work to finish in 6 months. If you still haven’t prepared deadlines for work to be complete in next 6 months, do it now. How much is each of the projects done with? How is your progress being analyzed on each of the work?

- A file should be maintained for every long time project. It should be a folder with a big label of the deadline on the outside. Note down targets to be done for every big project. (Milestones are to be considered as a deadline to finish a part of the project.)

Don’t waste time on things which don’t contribute much on success of the long term goals as this is the worst form of procrastination. If you are planning to rush into a few things at last moment, try to check if this is the best way for spending the time. Will I be able to finish some other job more efficiently and accomplish more in this time? Which of these jobs will contribute more to the bigger project?

Don’t get yourself to the state of Shakespeare’s King Richard II, who ended up saying: “I wasted time, and now time doth waste me.” Concentrate on procrastination today.

procrastination
Christine Kloser asked:

Are there important projects on your “to do” list that haven’t been completed? Do you keep telling yourself you’re going to “get to them”, only to find they’re still on your list… month later. It doesn’t feel very good, does it? Especially as an entrepreneur because every project represents money in the bank, or a dream being realized.

Whenever I find myself in this situation (which is less and less these days), I follow one of these 3 ways to stop procrastinating and get going. But, before you read further, think about one project that’s been on your “to do” list for quite a while. And, at the end of this article make a decision to follow one of these courses of action to end your procrastination.

Make A Financial Commitment

You’ve probably heard the expression, “Put some skin in the game.” The “skin” this phrase refers to is money. So, if you’re on the fence about taking action on something, one of the best ways to break your inertia and start moving is to make a financial commitment to your goal. When you’ve got “skin” in the game, you have a good reason to get going… every Dollar is a reason!

For many entrepreneurs, myself included, I invest in a coach to help me achieve my goals. Something happens when you make a financial commitment (to yourself)… you want to get your money’s worth! So, if you’re the type of person who wants to get Your money’s worth, invest in a coach whose hourly rate is out of your comfort zone. Stretching beyond your comfort zone is the critical piece in stepping up your own business and ending procrastination.

For some people $50 is a stretch, for other $5,000 is a stretch, for other its $10,000. Whatever feels like a stretch to you, make that investment, and a commitment to get your money’s worth. The results will astound you.

Make A Public Commitment

Another way to end procrastination is to make a public commitment. A public commitment is one where you tell other people what you you’re going to do. When you have a commitment to other people, the responsibility to “make good” on your word will get you in gear to finally accomplish the project you’ve been putting off.

Here are a few examples of how you can make a public commitment:

Schedule a seminar you want to teach (and book the location)

Announce to your ezine subscribers about something you’re Going to offer

Say “yes” to a speaking engagement before you have the speech written

Say “yes” to anything that fits in your business plan… Before you’re “ready”

Pre-sell a product prior to it’s completion

Tell people you’re going to do something, and Then figure out how to do it

Warning: Public commitments are not for the faint of heart. These types of commitments can be scarier than putting skin in the game. If you make a public commitment to stop your procrastination, be prepared to “sweat it out” a few times before it all comes together. On the other hand, this is a Great way to get your tush in gear.

Delegate and Eliminate

Did you know that one of the best ways to end procrastination is to simply delete the task from YOU list. There are 2 ways to do this. The first method is to delegate whatever you keep putting off. You can use service like elance.com to quickly, easily and affordably, find sub-contractors for everything from copywriting and graphic design to website development, press releases and virtual assistance, etc. Delegate is one of my favorite ways to get things done… empower someone else to do it for you!

The other method to get things off your “to do” list without having to do them is to simply eliminate the project. Let’s face it. If it’s been sitting on your list for a long time with no action, it may not fit into your overall goals and plan anymore. Take a close look at the project and if it isn’t a priority anymore Delete it, release it and don’t spend another minute thinking about it. It’s OK to let things go, it frees up your energy to do those things that matter more.

Now that you know the top 3 ways to end procrastination, go back to the task that came to mind at the beginning of this article. And, decide which of the above 3 tools you’ll use to end your procrastination and get into action (or elimination) once and for all.

procrastination
Abhishek Agarwal asked:

People do get stuck in their lifestyle full of procrastination just because they blindly believe in their own excuses for delaying, postponing or not taking any action. Procrastination is the key reason of people failing to live the richer & more fulfilling lives. In case you too are stuck in the rut of continuous procrastination, just make up your mind right now and give up all excuses.

Here are the steps that you must take to fight back procrastination right away:

1. In case you have been making excuses to put off the things, it is time now to take the charge of your life. To begin with, think of all the tasks that you have been postponing in different walks of life like work, home, personal relationships, personal development, etc. Pen them down and make a list as clearly as possible.

2. Next, choose that one thing in the list that you can help in some way or the other today itself.

3. Now, write down each & every excuse that you have been giving yourself for not taking the initiative yet.

4. Now ask yourself as to have you considered each & every consequence of your procrastination in the given area. Now, do you really want to live along with those excuses? Do you have any legitimate reason to postpone the job?

5. Remember that you must be honest regarding these answers and all their aspects. Here forget what the others think; just look in to the mirror & ask the hardest questions of all. In case you have some legitimate reason for postponing the action regarding the area, just move towards another entry in the list. Now find something that can happen today and that you can do it today itself, just by deciding that you shall make it happen.

6. Next, just do it. Once you have completed the task successfully, the satisfaction & sense of achievement would automatically motivate you to go through the process again following one another item on the list.

The successful people always understand that their accomplishments primarily depend on 2 factors:

1. Taking the action

2. Staying focused towards their goals.

Those who are successful in any sort of business and / or profession have the ability to make things happen. Their success owes to their victory in the fight against procrastination. These sorts of people develop certain traits.

In order to defeat procrastination & get everything that you want out of life, try and follow the following rules:

1. Know what you exactly want.

2. Force yourself to go ahead with the action.

3. Be willing to make the mistakes & then learn from them.

4. Stop making excuses!

Next, again go back to the list & choose another project. Now just repeat the drill like the earlier one.

1. Pen down all the excuses you have been giving to yourself for not initiating the task or leaving it incomplete. Make sure to add as many reasons possible as you can.

2. Now eliminate every excuse one at a time.

3. Question yourself the following questions:

Why must I postpone this project?

a. Is this postponement necessary?

b. In case Bill Gates were in my place, what would be his response, would he have postpones it?

c. What would happen in case I keep putting it off?

d. In case I continue putting it off, when would I get this done?

e. Can I initiate it right now?

f. Which part of this job can I complete now?

g. In I postpone it now, which are the other jobs that I would take up to make the best use of my time?

4. Now, as you are eliminating the excuses, just think of which task you could do today in order to complete the project.

Famous personality Anne Frank once mentioned in her diary – It is so wonderful that nobody needs to wait even a single moment to start improving the world.

Just make a decision to initiate the improving the world right away!
