procrastination
Beth Tabak asked:

Procrastination is a top self sabotaging behavior. Yet most procrastinators take action, just not in the area they procrastinate in. To help change your life, get new results, and gain the most value from your day implement the five practical tips below, and end the day with no regrets.

1- Get Your Head in the Game- The mind, an astonishing asset, can be the greatest obstacle. Become acutely aware of your perceptions, thought patterns, and self-talk, and whether they are supporting or stopping you. Here is what you might find and how to shift:

Fear- Stay present. Get the focus off you and onto who you are helping or what you want. Prepare. Believe in yourself. Take action to gain confidence and experience. Let go of expectations. Forge through fear just to do it! Feel good about that! Choose to not let fear hold you back any longer. Overwhelm- What part can you delegate? Break it down. Get details out of your head and into a system. Begin with one small step you are sure you can do. Commit only 15 minutes. Start with one small area. Begin! Set it up to succeed one small step at a time. Unsure of what to do- Call someone experienced. Research on and off line. Don’t hold back. People enjoy helping others. Get the help you need. You don’t like doing it or it is someone else’s goal- Delegate, commit 15 minutes to begin, or do it first in the morning. Get it behind you! Focus on how great you will feel when it is done.

Set yourself up to succeed. That entails getting your head in the game to move you into action. Put an end to beating yourself up. Be encouraging. Allow your brain to be your own best success coach!

2- Know Your Primary Actions- What are the three most important actions you can take today to create a high quality life, business, career, etc? What completion will make you say ‘Woo Hoo” at the end of the day? Get clear on what will make a difference. It is about taking action towards what you want. As you do you gain knowledge, expertise, connections, and find passion. Keep primary actions fore front knowing at the end of the day you want to feel good! Aim for no regrets!

3- Focus on Completing One Task at a Time in a Set Time Limit- Avoid multi-tasking. Efficiency rises with 100% focus on the goal. Imagine a gymnast, surgeon, pilot, or crossing guard multitasking. Maintain focus on what you want to accomplish in a set time. EX: Allow 15 minutes to check your e-mail so you don’t waste an hour. It takes practice learning how long tasks/ projects take but you will see improvement immediately when you aim.

4- Be in Action- Action leads to knowledge, experience, and success. Practice pays off. Learning to swim takes getting in the water. Learning to speak to a group takes standing up in front of them. Many end up feeling worse when they avoid making a new contact. Discomfort is a sign that you are ready for a new adventure. It’s a good thing! Get excited! Make the call. Do it! The more you do the more you gain expertise, meet intriguing people, have more exciting experiences, and see doors open for you.

5- Extreme Self Care- Pay attention to your body. Nourish it. Give yourself permission to take breaks to rejuvenate. Rest when needed and get a good night’s sleep. Notice the difference between self care and procrastination. You will accomplish more by rejuvenating than trying to push through when exhausted.

Take Action Now to Feel Great Tonight:

~ Knock out a Toleration- Set a timer for 15 minutes and clean out one area that has been irritating you.

~ Decide the 3 most important actions you can take today, then follow through.

~ What focus will motivate you into action when procrastination sets in? Say it and feel it.EX: ‘I want to say Woo Hoo at the end of the day.’ ‘I want new results.’ ‘I want a high quality life.”

~ Complete something right now that you have been putting off. You will feel great to get it behind you!

~ Get a support structure in place to connect with: a friend, small group, a coach, a class, etc.

Continue in action! We all are capable of so much more. You are an amazing person who is fully capable of ending each day saying “Woo Hoo! I did it! I knew I could!”  So just begin… starting now!

procrastination
Christopher Stigson asked:

If you want to be successful, but suffer from the disease called procrastination, you’re in trouble. When you want to be successful and change in your life you need to overcome procrastination as soon as possible.

Here are 9 awesome ways you can overcome procrastination with:

1. Break down goals into smaller more realistic goals. Say if your goal is to make a million dollars, start with a goal of $20,000 a month. When you have $200,000 you are much closer to the million, but it’s till far away, so you need to make a new goal, maybe $30,000 a month and knowing you can make $20,000 a month makes it easier for you to believe you can make $30,000 month than if you make $10,000 a month. Understand? Good!

2. Create a ‘to do’ list every single day and finish urgent tasks you think you don’t have time or confidence to do. So creating that ‘to do’ list now and start chopping away, without distraction is an amazing thing that really helps.

3. Have a bigger picture in mind. This means you have a goal, and a strong belief you can achieve it. So if you spend that 15 minutes to do something IMPORTANT that you know you wouldn’t have else done, you are ahead 95% of the people out there, meaning you are closer to success than you think.

4. Stop doing counterproductive tasks when you have something more important to do. Say NO to people who interrupt you in the middle of work, and be sure to complete smaller goals before moving on to bigger things. Start off with the hard tasks, because that way the easier stuff feels like nothing and almost like you are resting!

5. Always be on the lookout for problems and obstacles on your way to succcess. Like any terrain out there, there is never a straight road to the final destination, especially if it’s a long road, so be sure to move on ahead when you hit the “brick wall”.

6. Motivate yourself with treats upon completion of bigger goals. YES! Go out and get that pair of shoes or that shirt you have been wanting, but couldn’t afford before… That way you get all your money back and more the next day, cause you fulfilled your inner self first!

7. Keep reasonable deadlines. This removes the thought of having all the time in the world to complete a task, meaning you usually never do them. Instead say how soon it needs to be done and do it, do not procrastinate on this part.

8. Break free from the procrastination habit. Procrastination is a BAD habit that you want to break, so doing something the same for 30 days will eliminate the procrastination process and program in a go getter attitude into your mind. Try it!

9. Ignore procrastinating tasks. Don’t be afraid to fail. There is almost nobody who doesn’t fail when they want to be successful. Be strong and confident about your actions. Try to avoid anxiety and instead be proactive and go for it, jump through the hoops to get what you want. Start living your life and STOP procrastinating right away, even on the things you used to procrastinate on!

procrastination
Zamri Nanyan asked:

Oftentimes, we fall into both a producer and a procrastinator category in our lives. What we need to know is that being a procrastinator is not something good and once we realize the state we’re in, we have to stand back up and become a producer again. That will make sure that the results we’re getting are aligned with the vision we’re creating.

I had a chance to listen to a one-hour teleseminar by Johnny Wimbrey recently and managed to jot down a few points for the readers to benefit. The topic matched nicely with the points that we’re discussing here.

What are the 7 critical distinctions between a producer and a procrastinator?

Here are a few points Johnny Wimbrey talked about.

1. A Producer Is A Winner But A Procrastinator Is A Whiner.

Producers have a winning mindset. They eat, sleep and breathe winning possibility. These are the people who surround themselves around other winners. They allow themselves to be mentored by other successful people, and they become students for life. If there are any problems, they know that they themselves are bigger than the problems they face.

Procrastinators have stinking thinking and always look at things in a negative perspective. They focus on personal and external limitations. When there is a problem, they whine, cry and question everything in life. They don’t seek advice and are not interested to be mentored by other successful people.

2. A Producer Is Responsive But A Procrastinator Is Reactive.

Response is the root of responsibility. This is the quality of a producer. Being responsive means that producers control circumstances and they think before taking action.

Procrastinators, on the other hand, react to circumstances. They act without thought. When something happens, they can become panic and lose control. This leads to more bad circumstances in life.

3. A Producer IS Optimistic But A Procrastinator Is Pessimistic.

Producers address challenges in life effectively. They understand that there will be hard time and although nobody likes hard time in life, producers are always prepared to face circumstances. They see through the clouds and believe that there is always sunshine.

Procrastinators run from challenges. In fact, they don’t like facing them. They are fearful and when challenges arise, they feel stressed as if they couldn’t charge through hell in life.

4. A Producer Takes Risk But A Procrastinator Makes Wishes.

Risk takers create moment of possibility through invested time, money and energy in their dreams. Producers know that they have to be ’sacrificial’ and give something up so that they can get up in life. They don’t know what tomorrow will bring but they are ready to face the unknown.

Procrastinators hope for the moment of possibility. They wish that their dreams come true and become content and comfortable. They fear the unknown and are not ready to step out of their comfort zone. In the end, they stay where they are with the unfulfilled wishes.

5. A Producer Has Visions But A Procrastinator Has Only Illusions.

Producers have faith in their decisions. They see obstacle and see through it. They know that they will get their goals with their actions. That’s why producers are firm believers in goal setting. They start their journey now and don’t delay.

Procrastinators want their results based on sight, meaning that they have to see the results first before taking action. That is why there’s always lots of reasons why they do not get started at something. What they do is only inventing obstacle that does not exist in the first place.

6. A Producer Has Preparation But A Procrastinator Has Improvision.

Producers are always prepared and they inspect what they expect. For example, if they have speaking engagement, they will make sure that everything like research on topic, target audience and appropriate content is taken care of. And, they will make sure that what they expect to deliver will satisfy the audience. Then, they stay on plan.

Procrastinators don’t expect to be successful. Whatever happens will happen and they keep on hoping that their wishes come true. They move by emotion and after information.

7. A Producer Execute But A Procrastinator Makes Excuses In Life.

Producers have an attitude that they MUST be successful. They will implement and execute the right principals to reach their goals. In order for them to be successful, they will participate in anything that will lead them to their goals. Producers also have a sense of urgency in what they do and they begin with an end in mind.

Procrastinators, however, just have justifications. They will justify for any reasons why they fail in life. They WANT to be successful but don’t think that they MUST be successful. It leads them to postpone their action because of their dead-end mind says so.

To summarize, I have to admit that these 7 critical distinctions between a producer and a procrastinator are a reminder for you and me. We will fall in one of these two categories in life, but we have to realize it quickly and align ourselves with the producer mindset.

Let me close by what Johnny Wimbrey said in his teleseminar.

“I WANT You To Be Successful But I MUST Be Successful”.

Let’s all have this quote embedded in our mind at all time.

procrastination
Katlyn asked:

Are you procrastinating – AGAIN? Has procrastinating become a habit so bad you become paralyzed in doing what you need to do? You may have the desire to get things done, but for whatever reason, you never do. Procrastination can affect your life in many ways. It’s time to stop the habit and get things done!

Procrastination is born out of habit. Where did the habit come from? Possibly from a lack of confidence and a large dose of self-doubt. You want to do something, but start feeling you can’t get it done and end up paralyzed.

Your thought process can also turn you into a procrastinator. You start thinking of what you need to do in such a negative way, that you feel more comfortable not doing it at all. You want to be accepted and to please others and yourself. If you feel you can’t, you run into a major road block instead of making an attempt.

You need to understand the cause of your procrastination and then develop appropriate strategies to help combat it. In order to reverse this negative habit, you need to develop new and positive habits. You need to refocus.

If complex tasks leave you procrastinating, break them down into small steps. Don’t think about the task as a whole. Do one small step at a time and feel the sense of accomplishment. This will give you incentive to go on to the next step.

You may have a few contingencies to weigh out and prioritize, initially. If you are attempting a project that you are not confident of completing, take a breather. Give the project more thought. Think about your options. Seek help, if you need it. Have a solid plan in place before giving it another try.

If your procrastinating comes from a fear of failure, you are setting yourself up for failure by not making the attempt. Attempt a project decisively and with the frame of mind that you are going to apply yourself and give it all you’ve got. Don’t develop a defeatist attitude before even attempting the project at hand.

If you are a perfectionist, you may feel everything you attempt has to be perfect, thus setting yourself up for disappointment. A person who thinks that everything they attempt has to turn out perfectly and any less, is just not good enough, will often procrastinate. Perfectionists are their own worst critics. There are no “perfect” people in the world – just imperfect people striving to do the best they can.

How to stop procrastinating and get things done:

* REFOCUS – change your thought process from negative to positive

* believe in your abilities and that you are doing the best you can

* make lists of what you need to do

* prioritize what you need to do first

* list your options

* approach each task by doing one step at a time

* if you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it

* give yourself a pat on the back for each accomplishment

Set deadlines for making important decisions. With the right mind set and the right approach, you can overcome procrastination. Procrastination is essentially about lack of confidence or fear and these are habits you have formed in your own mind. You need to take one step at a time to rebuild self-confidence and overcome your fears that block you from taking action. Instead of being a procrastinator, you’ll become a doer.

procrastination
Peter Murphy asked:

Procrastinating is a very common problem in our society today. It seems to be more of a problem especially in the workplace. There are many factors that play a part in procrastination and why humans do it.

So how do we stop procrastinating?

We need to realize that we are doing it in the first place. Human nature allows us to do things and then disguise them as other issues. We tend to make excuses for our bad habits and usually end up blaming them onto other things or people. So the first step in learning to stop procrastinating is to identify that we are procrastinating.

So what exactly is procrastination? Procrastination is when a person literally avoids doing a task that they know they should be doing. It could be any task, from making a simple phone call to someone, or losing weight, to more important issues such as finishing a duty in the workplace that may cause you to lose your job if it isn’t completed.

Procrastination is a bad habit that usually has bad end results from doing it. If this sounds familiar, then it may be time for you to learn to stop procrastinating.

Why do People procrastinate? There are many, many reasons why we do it. A Study at a prominent University showed that 90% of the college students enrolled there were guilty of procrastination. The dropout rate of students that procrastinate is high, as well.

The reasons range from many different problems, however, Laziness is not one of them. We tend to think that people who procrastinate are lazy and that is just not the case. There is usually an underlying problem.

One of the most common reasons why people procrastinate is perfectionism. These people are so afraid of making a mistake that they avoid doing the task at all. Their way of thinking is that if they don’t do it, they won’t have to face any mistake that they have made.

Fear is another reason why people procrastinate. If someone is put outside their comfort zone, they avoid it. An example of this would be asking someone to write a speech to give in front of a group of people.

If this person is afraid of speaking in front of people, then they will more than likely put off writing a speech until the last minute. Little do they realize that it makes them feel unprepared and doesn’t probably go as smooth as they would like it to.

Another common reason why we procrastinate is out of anger. If someone is forced into doing something that they do not want to do, they rebel by avoiding the issue. This is so common during the teen years. The task is usually poorly done, if done at all.

So to stop procrastinating we must first set goals in our lives. We need to figure out what it is that we want to achieve, and then make a list of goals. They need to be realistic goals that we can achieve. If we set them too high we are setting ourselves up for a disaster.

After we set our goals we need to commit to doing them. That is the hard part, but if we can understand that we are procrastinating and why, it will be much easier to learn to stop procrastinating.
